What is Anime?

Anime (pronounced ah-nee-may), as defined by common non-Japanese fan usage, is an animation made in Japan. In Japan the word simply means 'animation'! 

Both hand-drawn and computer-animated anime exist. It is used in television series, films, video, video games, commercials, and internet-based releases, and represents most, if not all, genres of fiction.

Anime is primarily produced for children and young adults. But so much of it is so sophisticated that adults have also become fans.
Anime has a lot more to offer than pure entertainment. An entire subculture has grown up around anime and it's related forms of entertainment, not just in Japan but worldwide.

Anime is is an easily accessible, rich story-telling technique  ~ an art form that includes all the genres found in cinema or literature, from heroic epic and romances to science fiction and comedy
